I Am For You!

[Kredit]

قُلْ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Qul innasolati wanusuki wamahyaya wamamati lillahi rabbil a'lamin.

Say, "Indeed my prayer, my offering, my living and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds."
[al-An'am, 6:162]

I bet you are so used to this particular verse of the Quran, that you are uttering it in your heart as you are reading this.

How many times do we recite it daily? At least five times per day, that is if we are a lazy bum, we don't perform other prayers but only those which are compulsory. Now that we are in the holy month of Ramadhan, we recite it even more. During dhuha, rawatib, terawih, witir, tahajjud.. And there you go, you have lost your count.

Yet, to what extent do we really understand the significance of this verse? Do we really appreciate what we proclaim? Or even worse, do we understand what it means..?

Sweats.

It's not just a mere verse from the Quran. It's not another nice hearing verse recited by Fetih Seferagic, or that one verse that you can memorise easily. And yes, it's not just that particular verse that you read in your iftitah.

The weight of this verse is just profound. Immense. If only we can fully grasp the true meaning and weight of this particular verse, trust me, you will feel like jumping off the cliff at this exact moment. Like seriously.

It's our promise to Allah. It's our pledge of loyalty and allegiance to the Lord of the worlds. It's our proclamation that we are dedicating our whole lives to Him and Him alone.

It means, we won't do just about anything that is against His command and wish. We won't transgress His boundaries. We will do anything and everything to please Him. We confess that we are indeed His servants, that we rely on Him and Him alone for every single thing that we do.

It is our manifestation of ikhlas. It is a simple meditation (muraqabah, i.e. our relationship with Allah) of the highest order. From the smallest things that we do in our lives to the the most important matter that we perform, every single day. From the day we were born till the day we breathe our last. All is for Allah.

So important and significant this verse is, to the point Abu Musa al-Asya'ari r.a. used to say:

“I honestly wish that every Muslim would keep reciting this verse time and again, almost making it the constant formula of his or her life.”

This verse, of course goes hand in hand perfectly with that popular ISK verse of adz-Zariyat:

"I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me."
[adz-Zariyat, 51:56]

The very existence of our soul in this universe is none other, but to worship Him alone. All of our actions, saying and doings must be in the context of worshiping Him. The moment we fail to adhere to this, it means we have betrayed the sole reason of our creation. It means we are bold enough (or stupid, depends on how you look at it) to go against Him.

Gulp.

That includes our reluctance to perform our salah, our failure to stop ourselves from committing zina, we steal, we back bite others, we bribe and take bribes, we refuse to pay zakat, we watch porn, we look down upon others, we don't give a damn to the plight of our brothers and sisters in other places, our sickening and gross akhlak (attitudes) and the list goes on until the cows come home.

And yet, we promise to Allah that our prayer, our ibadah, our living and dying are for Him and Him alone..?? Pfftttt!

Oyy what is this Inche gabbana...?? Why are you being so harsh and brutal today..? Man man can ah?

Amboi pandai ampa cakap omputih noh..? Wahahaha.

Let us all reflect ourselves in a more honest, serious and thorough manner. Especially now that we are in Ramadhan, where the gates of hellfire are shut down while the gates of paradise are wide open, it's the perfect time for us to ponder and think seriously about how we have been living our lives thus far.

Because remember, we have promised to Allah and it's not a child's play. We promise to Him every single day that we will devote our life to Him and we will serve Him well. Free from any shirk or hypocrasy. And free from any personal or worldly interest.

Let us try our best to walk our talk. Let us all strive to deliver our promise to Him.

Because this is not our promise to the Government of Malaysia. Nor to Dato' Sri Najib Tun Razak. No.

But it is our promise to Allah, Lord of the worlds, the Lord Almighty, the Supreme Being, the One that owns our soul.

"I am for Yooouuuu, O Allah! I am for Yoooouuuu!"
